Opel
started producing automobiles in 1899 at
a rate of 11 vehicles per year. In 2002,
some 1.6 million Opel and Vauxhall cars,
commercial vehicles and component sets were
produced in nine production and assembly
operations in six countries in Western and
Central Europe. Outside Europe, products
bearing the Opel brand – including
vehicles based on Opel technology –
are manufactured in 13 plants worldwide.

are sold under different brand names in
some 170 countries on five continents.
Since its inception in
1862, Opel has set out to make technology
affordable and widely available to a large
segment of society. This vision has remained
constant from its roots as a sewing machine
